The Power of Fonts: How to Choose the Perfect Typeface for Your Website
Your website's font is like your voice in personal communication. It can be loud and attention-grabbing, quiet and soothing, elegant, or playful. Good typography subtly aids readability and strengthens your brand's message, while a poor choice can make even the most professional content unreadable and unserious.
1. Serif vs. Sans-serif: The Big Question
Serif fonts: These are classic fonts with "feet" (e.g., Times New Roman, Georgia). They convey elegance, tradition, and reliability. Often used by law firms, financial advisors.
Sans-serif fonts: Create a modern, clean, minimalist effect (e.g., Arial, Helvetica, Lato). They are the most popular in the digital world because they are easier to read on screen. Ideal for tech companies, modern brands.
2. Readability Above All
The most important aspect. The body text (longer paragraphs) should have a simple and easy-to-read font. Reserve decorative, overly unique fonts for headlines! Pay attention to appropriate font size (usually 16-18px) and line spacing (about 1.5 times the font size).
3. Less Is More: Don't Use Too Many Fonts!
A general rule is not to use more than two, maximum three different fonts on a website. One for headlines, one for body text. Too many fonts create a chaotic, cluttered effect. Choose pairs that complement each other well (e.g., a serif headline with a sans-serif body text).
4. Where to Find Free, Quality Fonts?
Google Fonts is your best friend. You can choose from hundreds of free, web-optimized fonts that can be easily integrated into your website. You can see popular pairings and test them with different texts.
Font selection is not just an aesthetic matter. Good typography increases time spent on the page, improves user experience, and strengthens your brand's message.
